Agreed - this is one of only two films that get me in the back of the throat - the scene you mentioned being one thing, and another was the scene in which the soldiers are forced to sing to mask the sound of Eli Wallach getting the crap beaten out of him by Lee Van Cleef's goon
"More feeling!" ... Films don't normally move me to that extent, but that one does
