Yeah, I know there's people who, for instance, prefer part II over part I.
I see this as a question of formats - had there been a CD issue of Go Insane in 1984 then Lindsey would've probably put Play In The Rain there as a single track, like it's been done with the CD reissues. On vinyl because of the change of sides he wanted to split the whole thing in two parts instead of putting it all on side A or B, probably because the other side would've been a bit too short then.
I do think of Play In The Rain as one piece because on vinyl side B picks off from where side A left us, that poing-poing-poing sitar manipulation or whatever it is. I remember that Jethro Tull did a similar thing with their Thick As A Brick album which only has one piece on it - Side A fades out with a certain theme that is faded in right at the beginning of side B. People think of it as a single piece even though it says "Part 1" and "Part 2" on the vinyl labels.
Actually on my vinyl label of Go Insane it says "Play In The Rain
(Continued)" on side B,
not "part 2". That's my reasoning for treating it as a single piece. But if people disagree with that then we might split it in two for the survivor/knockout.
