The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame thing was totally different. From reading a Peter Green interview recently, he said he didn't play with Fleetwood Mac because they'd already had a planned set, and he wasn't familiar with the material...he WROTE basically what has become Santana's signature tune, and Carlos asked him to play with them.
Kind of makes sense, why play unfamiliar material with your EX-band, when you can play YOUR OWN song with the people who keep the royalty checks flowing in!
I DO think Lindsey, for the sake of "the show", would leave the stage...it would make the transition to the next songs more dramatic, and, Lord help us if Stevie & Lindsey shy away from "the dramatic"!
