As a matter of fact, a good way to put it would be an acronym.
"Oh, I was IM'ing my IF."
"Your what?"
"My IF."
"WTF is that?"
"Internet Friend."
Double meaning obviously being...IF you ever meet them in person...IF you ever talk on the phone...IF the friendship ever extends to real life, then maybe they might be an RF(real friend). An IF can look like an RF, sound like an RF, and even feel like an RF. Yet not be one at all. Yet another hazard of the internet.

Right on.

I've had people disappearing off the face of the internet also without so much of a goodbye email and I considered them friends.

I've become very wary of internet friendships, the internet is just too much of an anonymous world to ever really get to know people. I've done the phone calls and the personal visits and even that wasn't a guarantee to a lasting friendship. Ah well.
I actually do miss David because I need some clarification regarding some bootlegs I have.
