I understand that you hate the studioversion, plinkaplink and so (very intelligent description by the way), I understand that you like the live version, it's VERY different from the original you dislike, but now you love the song again. Sorry dude, but to me it sounds like total crap.
I didn't say I loved "Red Rover" originally. I said I liked it.
Then within the context of 'Say You Will' it stuck out like a sore-thumb and I was turned off by it. I think that's a fair opinion.

Once I started listening to it OUT of context... in other words, on its own and not while listening to the rest of 'SYW'... I was more receptive to it again and fell in love with it.

As for my feelings for "Say Goodbye" live vs. the album version, there's a big difference between disliking a SONG and disliking a TRACK. I dislike "Say Goodbye" as a track (the production, the mixing, etc.), not as a song.
Easy enough to understand, I thought.

I've never smoked a joint in my life and don't plan on starting now, so I guess I'll just have to keep listening to it the old fashioned way... you know, without my mind being chemically altered.

Which, come to think of it, could explain why you think it's the best thing he's ever recorded!
