I don't find it too hard - I just intentionally ignore the stories blatantly created to distract or scare, the ones I can't do anything about (in the short term), or the ones I could give a crap about:
- Bird flu
- Global warming
- Online predators/MySpace/Internet porn
- Natalee Holloway
- Duke rape case
- TomKat
That's a 50-60% reduction right there. I'm not saying these topics have no value and shouldn't be covered - it's the lopsided water-cooler faux urgency ascribed to them that bugs me.
