I guess it's the same reason many people get annoyed if someone is relentlessly bashing a politician that they support... or, you know, if they bash the 'Time' album.
We all like what we like, and when someone is disparaging what we like, many folks get defensive to one degree or another.
I also think that, of all areas where one could poke fun at a celebrity, making comments about their weight is ALWAYS going to be something that engenders hurt feelings. A great many of us are not our ideal weight, and are probably self-conscious about it to some degree, so to see a celebrity whom we like and/or identify with, being ridiculed for
their weight, it gets the ol' defenses up.
Again, it's just a respect thing.
