I hold back for about a minute, but then I hear my mother very quietly singing along.
"Mom, I'm sooo sorry about this, but most of the time when I hear this song, I start crying!" I'm 20 years old, but that was the first time I'd ever openly admitted to a song making me sad. For whatever reason, I'm dreading the response, but she chimes in with a basic "it's so touching, it's such a wonderful song, it says so much about love and getting older..." and so on. You see, my mom's one of those "former" hippy types.
I breathe a sigh of relief and start laughing: "But seeing as you're here with me, I'll hold myself back!" I felt as if a weight had been lifted from my chest. A couple minutes later she asked me if I liked Stevie's or the Dixie Chick's version better. We both agreed, almost instantly, that Stevie's was way better.
if this sounds like a bunch of navel-gazing, but I just had a little story to share.
No that's cool. I love personal stories like that.
