I don't think Madonna is as thorougly steeped in the study of Kabbalah as, say, Moshe Edel. But obviously it's something she thinks is interesting. I don't know whether her interest is scholarly or spiritual, or both, but it's a little odd considering Madonna has built a career & a life out of giving free rein to sexual & worldly desires, when Kabbalistic teachings urge people to a higher moral life through spirituality rather than physical desire. It's like Prince suddenly speaking out in behalf of the ascetic life of the monastery. But whatever floats Madonna's boat. A lot of Jews probably think it's also a little odd of Madonna to study Kabbalah without first studying Torah (assuming she hasn't or isn't).
