I have wondered this many times. However, I am a homosexual man, and I do
not like the femmy types. At all. I think they're annoying and ridiculous - and to be honest, I have always believed it was just an effected behavior, caused in part by environmental stimulation. Effected for so long that it becomes the norm, and thus, a huge turnoff.
Granted, all gay men have a slightly effeminate quality to them...which is part of the appeal as well.

A female impersonator out of her costume can be an exceptionally masculine creature, indeed. Do not ever let the wig and dress fool you.
