Funny, I'm a pretty intelligent individual (pardon my momentary lapse of humility) and I completely see through the Republican malarky.
But then I've always been more concerned about fighting for someone else's rights, than I am about whether or not I'll have to pay higher taxes.

The accused will be tried based upon the crime they are accused of committing. Why does there have to be "special" laws for gay and lesbian committed crimes? So you think that a guy who beats the crap out of another guy over some woman in a moronic barfight and a guy who beats and tortures someone because they're homosexual, should get the same sentencing?
Anti-Hate Crime laws are meant to insure that someone doesn't get a simple slap on the wrist and then sent back out on the streets in 12 months to bash another gay man's brains in.
It is the duty of those in power to protect those who cannot defend themselves.
