David, what is the name of that town built right on the San Andreas fault, dubbed the Earthquake Capital? you can actually see the fault line from pics of the town streets.....pretty trippy

I found this from a search:

Parkfield has a population of 37 people. It is known as the earthquake capital of California. Located on the San Andreas fault, six similar, magnitude 6.0 earthquakes have occurred on the San Andreas fault near the town with apparent regularity -- one approximately every 22 years.
Im sure there are other towns that claim to be the earthquake capital...
my mom was in the big one in Coalinga in the 80's she said it hit the building like a train and sounded like one too...she also was in the other one during the world series, the Loma Prieta earthquake....that one scared her pretty bad....

I found a pretty neat link

click on the interactive link on the left hand side for a neat slideshow on continental shift...as well as a map of serious US Earthquakes, types of faults
tectonic plates....pretty interesting!
