I think Stevie needs to be an angel/Rhiannon-type during times of national dispair. I don't think she ever planned for it to happen, it just did and now it's almost like it's her new calling.
I will light a candle for your mother. Surgery is scarey for anyone, especially for the elderly. Your mom sounds like a real trooper. My wish for her peaceful recovery.
