Washing my hands is almost an obsession for me.. for example, if I just petted my cats and then want to eat something, I have to wash my hands first. Don't want cat-germs on my food. (All the same I got used to finding cat hairs in my food though and have little problem with that!)
Public restrooms though, I try not to touch anything, including the taps. Just think, the hands which touched those taps, where have they been before? Eww. But having to wash my hands wins from that thought, most of the time.

Touching the tap is gross. Turn the water off with a dry paper towel. Get it ready before you wash. That tap is dirtier than anything else, eww eww eww.
I always wash my hands. Always. But as someone above said, if there is no soap I get grossed out. Only THEN will I not wash because touching that tap is worse and without soap that stuff will not come off! Eww eww eww.
