(Both incidents span my generation) My best friend called me..."Do you see WTF is going on?" Yeah...we were both off work that day. My daughter's boyfriend was on medical leave from the Army with a broken back lying on my couch in the living room. I woke them up....when he watched w/eyes glazed over from pain, pain pills...he said "I've got to go back"...got dressed, got in my car, drove a mile from the house and blew the engine in my car trying to make it back to Fort Polk, Louisiana in record time. I have a whole different opinion of this war and our military because of my closeness to the situation. Is it possible to be on the fence about this one? Sometimes I'm torn between loyalty and conscience. I can see all sides. My daughter married him 10 days later, Sept. 21st, believing that he would be leaving for war. My stepson served in the military for 6 years. My brother is a retired EOD "frogman" from the Navy, 30 years. I watched him drink bottle after bottle of whiskey night after night recalling the events of the Vietnam war. Five year olds coming out of the darkness of the marsh, armed and ready to kill. His best friend getting his skull blown away just moments after relieving him early from his watch post. The American flag he carried with him, blood splattered, in memory of his friend.
I'm going on and on....sorry....This special is just bringing back feelings, old (some very old) and still fresh and raw in my mind. Just as I'm sure it is for others.

What does your brother think of this war? I am always curious about vets' opinions. I'm sorry he went through all of that. It is amazing that he even talked about it. It shocks me that you could think for a moment this war is just after what happened to him. It is not related to 9/11 no matter how much the administration tries to sell that it is.
I missed this documentary, I bet it is an eye opener. That day was really horrific. In such a way that words cannot describe. My little cousin had just moved to Long Island and she said there was funeral after funeral for her friends' parents and relatives. Just awful.
