I think it's hysterical, but the book
"The Life and Loves of A She-Devil" literally had me gasping for air. I'm not a Fay Weldon fan, but crikey, that book is one of the funniest things I've ever read in my life. The movie is only marginally faithful to it, which is a shame because the book is so over-the-top and outrageous. In the book, Ruth has plastic surgery for
years in order to look like Mary Fisher.
She is one truly evil and twisted bitch that you
love. I highly recommend it.
The BBC made a miniseries on it back in the eighties that is supposedly very faithful to the book, but it's not on video, unfortunately.
