I feel your pain.
Honestly, I think the attachment to Thousand Days for some, including myself, is because we have been listening to demos of it since 1986. Although I don't really care for the version of it that Stevie finally recorded and released during the Street Angel era, there is still a sentimental connection to this song that I can't shake....same with Mirror Mirror. They were classics for me 10 or more years before they ever hit the general listening public.
