You have more patience than I do, apparently. I can't stand to try to change my mom's mind about anything because it often takes too long, involves her going into wild and illogical tangents, and usually results in me raising my voice. I just don't play my favorite music when she's around and I try my best to avoid certain subjects. I honestly don't think she's capable of listening to Ani long enough for it to grow on her. At least your mom said the song would be bearable if Ani didn't do that thing with her voice. That proves that she was listening to the lyrics (not just the fact that Ani uses the word a$$hole in the song), and that she appreciated some aspects of the song. My mom didn't even act like she noticed a song was playing until she heard something she didn't like. Oh well! We get along great most of the time.

That sounds so much like me and my mom! And the cuss words didn't go over well at first. I'm a huge fan of "Untouchable Face," but the first time I played at for her, she just looked at me as soon as the chorus began. She grew to love that one, though. Her justification for getting accustomed to the "f*ck you" is weird though. She says it's okay because Ani's not yelling it and it doesn't sound as immature as you would think when she says it.
But the best instance was when I played her "Slide" (from Evolve) for the first time. In that song, Ani says
"When I look at you, I squint
You are that beautiful
And my pussy is a tractor
And this is a tractor pull"
I love it!
Anyway yeah, I try so hard to get my mom to like the music I like; it's really sad. At first, she only liked Stevie, and I was determined to get her to like other members of FM. I finally got her to like Lindsey with "Never Going Back Again" and Christine with "Songbird." She likes Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan, and Peter Green (I love all of those guys) but she's not big on Bekka and Billy. I don't think that one's ever going to work out.
I'll quit rambling now.
