I love that movie, I still watch it whenever it is on. Just cause Esterhaus mainly sucks, don't diss the instinct....  I remember I first saw it in the same week with Henry and June. I was 18. It's so baaaaaaad. Why that movie is rated NC-17 is a mystery to me, too. I've seen much worse in R-rated flicks. You can show some skin and get an NC-17, yet you can be as violent as possible and get an R. Go figure.
