I don't think he ever made PR a priority - his music speaks enough for itself. Bruce Springsteen is the same way.
Wow. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on Don Henley's musical and songwriting merits, and I'll even ignore the comparison to Springsteen's songwriting. I don't think that's an argument that would be terribly fun or productive here.

But! As long as you bring up Springsteen, he's a guy who very clearly makes PR a priority. He's always very deliberate and diplomatic in interviews, and he would never say some of the off-the-cuff or even rude things that Henley has been known to say. (And I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing, just that I would put Henley and Springsteen in very different camps as far as PR is concerned.)
