Whitey Bulger has been a fugative for 10 years. He was a big FBI informant for years so they would look the other way while he did his dealings (and paid them off). He had a vast network of crooked cops/agents on his side keeping him in business. There isn't a lot of detail about that in the book but it talks about how he basically owned Southie and that folks thought of him as a hero. It is interesting to learn their perspective, why they would see a crooked mobster as a hero. Very interesting. |
