I've always wondered how the right-hand vs. left-hand drive situations evolved... Is it possible right-hand drive became more popular for the reason you suggested, since a majority of the population is right-handed???
The weirdest thing I ever saw was in the U.S. Virgin Islands when I was there in the '80s. Since they used to be a British colony, they still used the right-hand drive (British) system, only with LEFT-hand drive (American) cars. I was only there for a week, yet I saw a major traffic accident every single day.
