I agree Mick was in charge at the time, apparently to everyone's later chagrain. But, I think she is being romantic here and visualizing FM as this big ship they are on and though they may try to guide it, it has a life of its own when the five get together and that life/ship guides itself, which was into superstardom.
Then again, she could been wasted and wrote "that's why I wear my hair in a bun" and when recording thought in a haze that she had to run, but it came out "not one of us runs"
