I like TISL a lot, I think it was a great comeback vehicle for her solo career. As with every album, there are things that drive me nuts because of their sheer mediocrity, but I think her material was strong enough to make the record rather resillient in that respect. The title track still astounds me with every listen, it's perfection.
However, I hope that on the next record they don't screw with her vocals so much. The metallic feel to them on TISL is a very acquired taste. |
Oh I agree - I was saying they are the way she wanted them - I think her vocals could have been better - but I always say that about everyone including people like Deborah Voigt, Patti Lupone, Christine M, - all of which I really consider close to perfection - at least to me
But, yea, that voice tinkering is akin to nails on a chalkboard at times - AND - LB's (presumably LB
) use of that radio sound on EFO and Illume
- I guess I think gimmicks are beneath them and ESP. him because he is brilliant and so innately innovative without that.
