I live in the far north suburbs of Chicago (about 20 mins. from the WI border). I know people from WI who call them jimmies as well... I'd never heard that expression before meeting them.
As far as the Midwest states go (IL, IA, IN, WI, etc.), aside from the big cities, there's not a whole lot there. A lot of farm land. Illinois is very flat. (Wisconsiners call us, among other names, "flatlanders", which is supposed to be an insult.) I'm bored to tears driving through any of those states. And it's COLD during the winter, muggy during the summer. Being close to Chicago is about the only thing I like about living here. There's a ton to do there. Lots of music, restaurants, shopping, theater, architecture, night life, sports, etc. Plus the lake. And it's a huge melting pot.
I may be moving to Dallas within the next 6 months, though. My husband has been working there for almost a year. I'm looking forward to the warmer climate, but am apprehensive about Dallas in general. What scares me most is that it is very conservative down there. For a midwestern state, Illinois is pretty liberal (mostly due to Chicago, probably). And I definitely fall into the liberal category, so... I don't know how well I'll get along down there.
