Just to update the articles in the links, the format war may be moot since manufacturers are releasing dual DVD-A/SACD players (except or Sony which created/invented SACD). Check out players from Denon, Pioneer and Panasonic just to name a few. This is comparable to the situation with current pc dvd writers which support both the dvd+r and dvd-r formats.
Also, DVD-A can now be played using a digital connection, though currently you'll be paying more for that privilege. Pioneer uses firewire in their higher end line (Pioneer Elite). Denon uses a proprietary link comparable to firewire in their newest receivers and dvd players. Manufacturers are awaiting Sony's approval to output SACD digitally.
Also, hybrid cd's (one layer cd, one layer SACD) are out there and not necessarily in the SACD section in the stores. For example, all the ABKCO label Rolling Stone reissues were released as hybrids and will most likely be found along with regular cd's instead of in the SACD section.
