Of the shows I saw & all the shows I've heard from 1991, I'd say that Irvine Meadows was the best night vocally for Stevie. But most of the other shows were embarrassments: Dallas, Wantagh, Holmdel, the pro-shot video from Mountain View, the show at the Whiskey, etc. And that band of hers that year . . . God help. They had all the personality & finesse of a runaway train with tin cans tied to the caboose. The band comprised the worst elements of AOR muscle rock like Heart & Poison -- loud, vapid & shlocky. And Stevie herself -- flat, toneless gabbling, dressed like a female impersonator's idea of Mae West (someone I know once said she dressed like an African-American woman going to Sunday church in Biloxi in 1955).
I call it Stevie's NASCAR year.
