"Save Me A Place" is as esoteric as "When I See You Again", don't get me wrong. But it definitely isn't inaccessible. There may be a few people on this board rooting out for it (not me though) but when I read commentary from outside reviewers, stuff like "the most emotionally resonant piece on the album", it can be identified with by others, too.
"SMAP" is Lindsey's attempt to make music in the singer-songwriter formula, without the usual "excessive" arranging. It's a formula he rarely gets into. The song speaks of depression like "When I See You Again", but then again not the kind of depression that you seem to identify with. "Don't know why I have to work, don't know why I can't play". It's a very passive statement, it speaks of mornings when you just can't be bothered to get ouf of bed. And yet there's a glimmer of hope coming through it, like in "When I See You Again".
Of course, whatever you're stating in this thread isn't any less harsh than the "WISYA" 'critique' that you've seen yourself. So there goes your reputation as the UN of the board out of the window. Bring on the US.
Not that I mind that much. "SMAP", "WISYA", in fact, everything this band and its solo artists have released, is just awfully boring.
