I have always thought it was a strange comment on Stevie's part. If she had not read the book, then how would she know there were lies in it?

Yeah, I have a video of that interview. It was during the Timespace era when she was TICKED about Silver Springs. Great interview, although I don't think I've ever seen her in a worst mood during an interview.
She also refers to Mick as their "great, terrific, TRICKY drummer," or something to that effect. She definitely calls him "tricky." And yeah, she does says the thing about marking in red pen "big lie" and "could've been written better."
To answer your question of why she thought there would be lies in it without having read it, I think she finally saw what Mick was capable of doing for money (ie, not letting her have Silver Springs). If he could treat a supposedly good friend in such a way, what would he do to sell books? Probably make stuff up or bend the truth to make it more interesting.
I don't know, that's just my opinion of it.
