I think having a fuller band benefits some songs, and is a detriment to others.
The somewhat sloppy, but oh-so-enthusiastic White Album tour versions of "Rhiannon" and "I'm So Afraid" can never be improved upon, IMO.
The funky early performances of "You Make Loving Fun" were always best, and "The Chain" definitely sounded better with more sonic space.
But I think other songs like "Gypsy" and "Over My Head" really come into their own on stage, when there are more musicians to help flesh them out (Still, I'd prefer it if they did "Gypsy" acoustically these days).
