I concur. It is essentially a repetition of “Songbird” atmosphere-wise, it has the same sense of bitterness in there. Still great of course.

I just like the album version more. In between the erotic dream of “Brown Eyes” and the life-affirming naivety of “I Know I’m Not Wrong” the alternate one just doesn’t fit.

Opinion appreciated. I think the album version doesn’t really have that much production in it. The accompaniment sounds like it’s coming from a transistor radio from the other side of the room and Chris is right there in front of you singing and staring into nothingness through blank eyes. That’s more heart-breaking for me, especially when you consider the first verse. It’s like nothing can hurt the woman. She’s surrounded by this self-made wall that she’s built up for her protection. The backing track of that one has almost an ambient-like hum to it. It’s a sea of huge emptiness that only emphasizes the vulnerability of the vocal.

Ah, preferences, schreferences.
