I don't think downloading is so much to blame. These people probably don't even know there is a new album

That's exactly what I mean. Lots of people going for nostalgic purposes.... dancing around to the classics and silent during the contemporary stuff.
Then again, I've been to many a concert where I didn't even own ONE of the artist's albums.
