Gaius (Face of Glass)
I agree about vocal imperfection adding interest to a singer's voice. I mean Whittney (in the old days) and Celine are fantastic singers and rarely if ever miss a note or pitch. But, could they sing "Have a Heart" or "I Can't Make you Love Me" like Bonnie Raitt can. BR's vocals in those are imperfect, which adds to the heartbrake for me. Same for Marlene D. when she sang very flatly in German to the Israeli's (many of whom were concentration camp survivors or their progeny) in the 60's (?) - not a dry eye in the house due to personage and delivery, both of which Stevie has in spades.
Finally, I agree Illume is moving as sung and I totally get, understand, appreciate, and like her moving trance-like message. I just wish she would have written a third stanza because I do not care for the repetition. Same for the song SYW. But and again, I like the songs as recorded. I just want more, everyone's a critic, etc.
