don't forget Stevie somewhere in recent years started saying that she was "Miss R&B" too.. she would listen to all sorts of R&B on the radio in the car with her parents and sing along
She's also talked about really old school country and western music she was exposed to by her grandfather. And let's not forget the first song she and Lindsey ever sang together was California Dreaming by the Mamas and the Papas and that 60s folk harmony thing. She didn't really keep up with new stuff starting around the 90s and has talked about how she was listening to mostly old stuff but then had some younger friend/god daughters who put together playlists for her with new stuff so she wasn't stuck in the same rut.
Lindsey is a Beach Boys fan but yes that is mostly the genius of Brian Wilson. He's also talked about the 50s rock and roll e.g. Elvis etc he heard from his older brothers. He is also a huge fan of the Stones... inspiration for the drum sound he wanted on GYOW was Street Fighting Man by the Stones. And after his firing he compared his role in FM to Keith Richards in the Stones versus Stevie who he said was in the Mick Jagger role. The singer versus the guitar player and why would a band get rid of the most talented musician?
He mentioned in the past that as they were working on Rumours he had been listening to the Bee Gees Jive Talking and the guitar at the very beginning and really inspired by the texture it gave the song and how they got that sound. He was def inspired by the new wave stuff like The Clash as mentioned and also Talking Heads.
He most recently on his socials said he was going back and listening to some old favorites and at that moment he'd been listening to Thin Lizzy. He's on record as being a fan of newer (to us oldies) bands like Vampire Weekend and others....So.. I think his tastes are pretty broad.
I would expect lots of the classic blues players for both Mick and John given how they started their careers and all through the early 70s
I recall Christine mentioning Steely Dan for sure and then of course all the blues greats Albert King, BB King, etc....not sure what contemporary stuff she liked though....
