Peter Green actually coined the name "Fleetwood Mac"- that's been pretty well established- he gave it to the name of an instrumental track Peter, John and Mick recorded together whilst all three were still in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. .
Mick and John seem to own the trademark "Fleetwood Mac" so they can do what they want with it, I guess.
