??????...yes "You prefer to be just and little bit in and out of love with me" of course, that is the first line of the stanza. That's unmistakable!

It's the second line in question....let me spell it out...

You prefer to be just a little bit in and out of love with me
And not to scream and shout
You prefer to be just a little bit in and out of -----------?

It's either agony or apathy. Probably "agony" but "apathy" would
be more dynamic.
