Stevie's vocals might not be the most passionate they've ever been, but I think they're rather good on 'Street Angel.' There's the latter-day deeper huskiness, but there are also shades of her "girlier" voice, as on "Jane."
I definitely prefer them to her vocals on 'The Other Side Of The Mirror,' which... to my ears... are sometimes harsh.
And yeah, I'll grant you there are a few lyrical miscues here and there ("Street angels live on the street, and they always will" or "The children of the world, the forgotten chimpanzee"), but I think stating that the album is "marred by awful lyrics" is a bit exaggerated.
Still, we're all entitled to our opinions... and what a boring world it would be if we all agreed on everything.
'Street Angel' will never be my favorite album, but it's definitely not my least favorite album, either.
