Over & Over is one of my all time favorite Christine songs. The Live (1980) album version totally blows my socks off every single time I hear it. What a monster it was compared to the downright staid studio/album cut.

That's what has always made this song such an interesting study in contrasts to me- the lyrics are about starting a new relationship, and Christine having to pinch herself because it's such a dream come true. Yet the music is positively mournful. I guess maybe that's the genius of the song, though- it's capturing the anxiety and obsession of a new relationship, and the reality that it might not work out.

I kinda like how different the final album cut and the live renditions are, though. The album version is so solemn- almost like a private prayer; yet the song onstage just totally taps into those explosive feelings. Such a great song.
