Camp's debut album, Jesse & The 8th Street Kidz, represented his big chance at stardom. There's an unmistakable rock star fantasy camp vibe to the album, as the modestly talented, vocally-challenged but undeniably charismatic newcomer duets with
Stevie Nicks, collaborates with Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen and fronts a band that includes veterans of Camp's favorite groups, including Hanoi Rocks. The question isn't why the album didn't succeed but rather why anyone thought it would in the first place. Camp was peddling a discredited form of music a decade past its heyday via a network that by that point was more famous for not playing music videos than for championing and popularizing the medium.
