Good evidence. I had almost forgotten about this take. Thank you for posting the link!

This "Glee version" reminds me of those CD's back in the day that you could order, which had kid-friendly versions of popular songs.
Is "hangin' on to you" so inappropriate (and possibly seen as sexist)* that they felt the need to change the line for the show? Hmph!

Since reading this thread, I listened to the album version thrice and I have come to the conclusion that S&L are singing "hangin' on to you".
This is the way I've always heard it and I will continue to do so until either Stevie or Lindsey says otherwise.

EDIT: * The Glee directors might have been worried that "hangin' on to you" might sound sexist like as if S&L have dependency problems or that a woman has to hang on to a man. It never came across as sounding that way to me.
