Dolly Parton is not the same thing as Stevie Nicks.

Dolly writes SOME of her own songs, maybe more than half, depending on the theme of the album. However, she mostly does covers and sings songs written by other people. Stevie SELDOM records a song written by someone else.

One could also state, and I think even Dolly Parton would agree, that what Dolly records is mostly "Crap" for the sake of "crap" and putting something out. A lot of Dolly's albums are throw away crap. Crap crap crap. No staying power. Dated. Drivel. AND I LIKE Dolly Parton.

Stevie holds her recording to a almost magical altar of magic and treats each song like a child. Unless it is from the Klonapin era she still loves that child. When was the last time she did anything from OSOTM or SA? once? in 1999? ROF?

So yah, I dont think the original poster was talking about interpreters of songs like Dolly, or Linda etc.... but rather solo artists that are songwritters and singers of their own songs.

Being a part of a Band and going solo, not many other artists can do that. Especially a woman. Natalie Merchant comes to mind. But even she LEFT and never went back. Stevie has had 7 and counting solo efforts, plus 8(ish) and counting FM, not counting compilations.
