I agree they should fire her if an album is being held up because of her. At least both Lindsey and Christine made it very clear they were leaving when they parted with FM. Stevie, on the other hand, appears to want to get the benefit of wanting to be in FM without having to put in the work in the studio. If that's the case, it really says something about her character.
However, I will concede we really don't know what the situation is. If she plans to record and the Nashville project is a quick thing, then I suppose everyone wins.
I've been hard on Stevie, but I will make a few points to clarify my position:
- She has every right to do a solo project if that is what she wants to do.
- She has every right not to record with FM again if that is how she feels.
- If the above is the case, then she needs to clarify her position and leave the band.
- A new FM album, with four or five members, will likely not be that great, unless the band gets the right producer. The EP had bland songs with piss-poor production. If that's what we can look forward to, then I'm not interested.
- FM has, like it or not, sullied its brand by effectively becoming a nostalgia band. It will never be able to shake that.
- Keeping the above in mind, Lindsey is actually hurting his brand. His solo records got him so much cred as an edgy, alternative artist, and now he's ruining it by touring on the strength of mostly tired old songs. I don't think he realizes that.
- FM is just about money today. And like any other enterprise that is about money, it can't be truly innovative or interesting.
