The problem is that much of today's country is formulaic and way too pop-oriented. It's as if a totally new subgenre of country pop has been created but no one has gotten around to categorizing it as such.
Nashville produces the best and the worst of it. Some country music is still being made, but mostly it's uninspired drool.
