Pleasure. Oh, Lindsey's been talking this 'we've finally got closure/beginning of closure' things for a good decade or so now. And YET I don't think they have it yet either, actually, whatever they say. That 'residue' is still there and they're still 'looking at the love that's always been there'. Have a look at the introduction for Say Goodbye from Philadelphia this year. From what I could make out, Lindsey basically said this:
"This is a song I wrote about Stevie maybe 10 years ago and, uh, it's about closure. As much as the (?) dialogue between the two of us can be *laughs* (?) and I think we're still trying to find it, right? (?) Or maybe we're not. I don't know. Anyway, it's incredible after all this time that there (?) seem to be a few chapters here between these two people. I don't understand. *laughs*"
Okay, so first of all Lindsey, you wrote this in 1987 according to other tours...

Also, you were writing about getting closure in your r'ship with Stevie back in 1987 but thought it's time was right in 2003 and yet you STILL think you guys are trying to find that closure in 2013? Except NOT. Because 'MAYBE WE'RE NOT. I DON'T KNOW'.
UM, WTF?
So, you don't think you ever found that closure and perhaps you're not even bothering to try and get that closure anymore? Just saying. And now it's not about closure anymore - it's more forward looking and more relationship positive.
And yes, the dreams motif certainly hasn't, um, gone away over the years. To be honest, particularly with Lindsey, it seems to be on the increase.
Yes, I understand that. They are, after all, each other's
'miserable muses'.
“No. Lindsey and I and our tragic, uptight way of doing things to each other is still the same in so many ways. In many, many ways. Lindsey and I are still the same people that we were when we met at 16 and 17.
There’s a part of our relationship that remains unchanged. It doesn’t matter that he’s married with kids. It doesn’t matter what my life is.
When we’re together we can still be incredibly teenage. And we still write about each other a lot. We’re still great sources of inspiration for each other. When we’re 90, whoever goes first, the other one will be sitting on a bed alone. We’ll never run out of stuff to write about.” [ETA: Is this a direct quote or are you impersonating Stevie to be funny
Yes, they still seem to have
PLENTY to write about. And certainly not just about that initial break-up and the short-term effects of it. Both The Dance and SYW times certainly provided them with some new material, unsurprisingly...

I certainly understand what you mean.
Writing emotions out can definitely be of help and also I think lyrics (particularly for Lindsey, who LOVES to compartmentalise) are a space or even 'the' space - along with onstage - where he CAN express those 'residual' feelings and emotions and 'dreams', if you will.
"Music is a means of expression that rings truer and is more connected to things inside than speech." (Lindsey Buckingham, 1992)
I'm not saying either of them are necessarily stuck in the past but that,
for two people who like to say 'no regrets', 'it was destiny and I'm cool with it' type things they both have an interesting way of expressing that, particularly Lindsey (and Stevie's 'can't be an artist/and have kids etc and I made that choice' always fascinates me when contrasting it with the way she ALWAYS talks about their parallel life/endgame possible goal - marriage, music AND kids). He may be more 'inspired' than he's ever been as many folks like to say but looking at a lot of lyrics,
I wouldn't say it's exactly a forward-looking kind of inspiration a lot of the time. There's a lot of a longing and a lot of dreaming (and oceans, and walls, and fires, lines to be crossed, and saving etc) for someone who's meant to have gotten closure a long time ago.
And time does heal all wounds, so they say. So it's always a pity when Stevie and Lindsey just insist on creating NEW wounds for themselves each time they get back together (in a manner of speaking).
