IS contradiction!
My guess is they've decided against releasing the material until they see how audiences react to it. Then they'll decide whether or not to record a full album, or simply dump the 3 songs onto iTunes & go back to their solo careers. I never once thought they'd be so bold as to release a few new songs electronically before a tour. That's just too efficient & not painful enough for us fans.
