That top '77 one is my favorite, I guess I'm too much of a purist about this song and don't need a lot more than what's on the track. It's probably not the best guitar solo of all but that's not why I love the song. Lindsey has more fun on Tusk and Mirage and that's fun to watch, plus everyone looks real cute on Mirage (except Mick, Mick just looks crazy). But the more fun it gets the less devastating the song feels and that's how I like it best, especially on that amazing chorus. Earlier on, I guess when Lindsey was still reeling from the breakup, his vocals sound more tortured. I also like the faster pace and the ending, I don't think they ended the song on that minor chord most of the time. I'm also a sucker for Stevie's death glares.
I could never figure out what Stevie (and Christine?) says at 3:00 though? It sounds like "only love" to me but I don't think that's right.
It isn't the same without Christine. I understand why they slow it down later as well, but it's not as amazing for me. One thing I do like about the later tours (Dance, and I think SYW?) is Stevie harmonizing on "shacking up's all you wanna do". I'd never heard the one man version before, I'm not sure I dig it especially but that is a killer solo. Plus it's hard for me to dislike this song.
