I'm a shipper and i like Aznavour sometimes, but i don't think those are the reasons why i like the song.
But i remember listening to the live version and my mom was in the room, and she asked if it was Fleetwood Mac and i said yes. And then she told me something like "this song doesn't sound like rock n' roll or folk, or anything. It is really bizarre.", so i guess there is a particular sound to this song that i'm not aware of because i'm so used to it. Maybe it really is Julio-ish

i never went away

. but you guys, i really really don't like that style of music, so please don't make me listen to Sinatra or Iglesias father or Aznavour to try to find songs that would make it clear to you. does schlager-like help?
see? your mom knows!
LB said once that as he ages he'd hope that his music would become more age-appropriate like Sinatra's was or something like that and this song may be an example of his try in that direction, whether it was intentional or not. luckily he didn't stray much more in that direction and stayed more true to himself instead.
