I hated the way the hipster music critics judged him for not coming out, but I think he made it the right political and artistic statement at this time. Of course, now he will just be made fun of by the same hipster critics because he didn't need to come out cuz everyone knew he was gay. Coming out is a political stand. It's not about surprising people.
