In regards to my comment about the relationship ending twenty-seven years ago... I really do believe the love/romance stuff ended at that time.
I honestly don't think they found themselves falling in and out of each other's beds after that.
Maybe for a brief time directly after the breakup, but I can't see that still happening on the 'Mirage' tour, for example.
They had a hard time getting over each other because, as they've said, they had to continue working together and see each other.
Lindsey had to sit down and take these songs Stevie had written about him... and, even worse, possibly about other men... and arrange them, and produce them.
While Stevie had to find some level of trust to allow Lindsey to do that... forever fearful that some deep-seated animosity towards her might cause him to sabotage the effort.
And then there was the "proving yourself" ego thing that they both had.
Her wanting to prove to him that she could be just as successful without any help from him... and him wanting to prove that he could be happy and productive without her.
For some reason I don't get the feeling that either of them ever looked at who the other was dating, and thought, "that should be me."
I really don't think it was unrequited love that kept them at each other's throats... I think it was just a matter of old lovers wanting to prove something to each other.
They can work together now because they got past that stuff, but they still argue at times because of how passionately the both feel about the music they're working on.
At least that's how it seems to me.
