And, it's not at all realistic. Carole King join Fleetwood Mac??? Epitome of a pipe dream. Never gonna happen. What could the band offer her? A big payday? Even if she had never made "Tapestry", she would still be swimming in more royalty money than any songwriter in Fleetwood Mac, probably combined. Career advancement? She's a solid concert draw and still holds the record for most consecutive weeks for an album by a solo female artist to be on the charts. Still, it would totally kick ass for her to be in the band. (Why don't we get Clapton, too, while we're at it?)
Cyndi Lauper would be more realistic (the first song she ever recorded was a dance cover of "You Make Loving Fun" which has surprisingly spot-on vocals), but she can pack venues on her own. Why put up with band politics? Although, given that she recently did a blues album, I could see her actually digging the notion of fronting a band like Fleetwood Mac. (Okay, I just want "Get Like You Used To Be" back in the set-list.)
You're probably right about it being the four of them or nothing, though.
That being said, I'd be happy if Stevie wasn't in the band anymore. Based on her contributions, comments, and actions, it's pretty clear to me that Fleetwood Mac really hasn't been a priority for her in thirty years or so. She said she wouldn't be the one to break up Fleetwood Mac, but she hasn't exactly been the one to make them shine (except when it serves her needs...like "The Dance") or make it easier for the band to exist. How anyone could do "Whole Lotta Trouble" and "At Last" as a solo artist while being in a band with British blues royalty, one of whom was named Melody Maker's Reader's Poll FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR for the hit she had with AN ETTA JAMES SONG...TWICE, is totally beyond me. (Hell, she could've won over some of the old Peter Green fans.)
